Service Board

5 year terms.
Scheduled
meetings in addition to called meetings. Members receive
$100.00 per month. The Civil Service Board was established
by Act # 437 of the Alabama Legislature in 1947. This board
has authority over the police and Fire Departments in
hiring, firing, promoting and demoting. They screen
applicants and give final approval for employment.
Disciplinary action or termination may be appealed to the
Civil Service Board. The Board is advisory to the Mayor and
City Council in matters concerning the Police and Fire
Departments.

Deadlines for the next applicant
pools are as follows:
Firefighter: November 7, 2008
Police Officer: October 17, 2008
Testing for each will follow shortly
thereafter.

2008 Meeting Schedule
In accordance with the
requirements of the Alabama Open Meetings Act, the Civil
Service Board of the City of Florence is hereby posting the
schedule for meetings for the year 2008.
The Civil Service Act states
the following: “The civil service board shall hold regular
meetings on the third Mondays in January, April, July and
October for the transaction of business….”
2008 Meetings:
January 18, 2008*
April 21, 2008
July 21, 2008
October 20, 2008
Unless posted otherwise,
meetings will be held at 5:30 in the City Hall Auditorium.
Due
to the Martin Luther King holiday, the meeting that should
be held on 1/21 will be held on 1/18/08.
