Sam Pendleton, Jr., is a retired Science Teacher of 32 years. He was first elected to represent District 1 in August, 1992. He was reelected in 1996, 2000, 2004 and again in 2008. He served as Council President and Chairman of the Finance, Utilities and General Administration committee from 2001-2004. Sam presently serves as Chairman of the Public Safety Committee (Police Department, Fire Department and the Municipal Court), where he is a strong advocate of hiring additional police officers. "I would rather Florence have additional police and not need them, than to need them and not have them."  He believes "Without Law and Order, There Is No Order."  His other committee assignments are member of the Public Works and Planning Committees. He is also active in several community based organizations.

Sam and his wife, the former Deloris Ann (Blackburn), have two sons, Cedric Maurice and Demetrius Dion. They are members of the Revival Center Church of God in Christ, Elder Walter Johnson, Pastor.
