Tips
"What precaution should I take for my dog during the
summer months?"
All animals need extra care during extreme temperature
months. Make sure your pet has fresh water, shade, shelter and
protection from ticks, fleas and flies. Remember pets can
suffer from heat stroke or exhaustion.
"What precaution should I take for my dog during the
winter months?"
All animals need extra care during extreme temperature
months. Make sure your pet has a solid four sided structure to
get out of the wind and cold. Make sure you point the house
away from the direction that bad weather normally comes from.
For us in north Alabama that would be pointing the house away
from the west. I also like to give my pet a little more food
during cold months. Keep a close eye on your pet's health and
keep him healthy and happy. Remember while you are toasty
inside ole Spot is braving the cold. Fresh water is also
important during the winter. Many owners fail to replace
frozen water daily. Exercise is still a must during all types
of weather.
"I am new to the city of Florence and would like to know
what the leash law encompasses."
The leash law in Florence is very similar to the one other
cities have in effect. Basically your dog must be confined at
all times. You can keep your dog in a fenced in area, or on an
eight foot tangle-free chain. We recommend you use a runner
instead of a chain. Yes, your pet can go walking with you as
long as you have him on a leash and under your control.
Keeping Your Dog Healthy And Happy
A Dog is For Life...
Tips for keeping your dog happy and healthy:
Feed him
Train him
Walk him
Play with him
Groom him
Exercise him
Clean up after him
Love him
Confine him in a fenced yard
Keep him leashed when not in an enclosure
Vaccinate him against Rabies
Give him a rabies tag and license tag
Keep him free of fleas, ticks and diseases
Neuter him to control overpopulation
Signs that your dog is a pest to others:
He's running at large
He's chasing people
He's chasing cars
He's scattering garbage
He's biting people
He's harming other dogs
He's causing traffic accidents
He's abandoned without food or shelter
Make sure there is room in your life for a dog before you
add one to your household! And remember — the hectic holidays
are not the best time to bring a puppy home.
