FPD Handgun Safety Course

The Florence Police Department has a diverse cadre of trained firearms instructors who have been trained by either the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the National Rifle Association. A team of these instructors will provide citizens with a balanced course of instruction that focuses on safe firearms handling and storage, the fundamentals of handgun marksmanship, an overview of self defense law in Alabama, and a live fire experience under the direct supervision of a trained firearms instructor.

This is a basic level firearms course intended to facilitate safe handling and responsible firearms ownership in our community. People of all skill levels and backgrounds are invited to participate. However, people with extensive firearms experience or training may find the course to be more basic than they were looking for. If you are one of these more experienced shooters you may find a more satisfying experience by contacting one of the professional contractors who provide tactical shooting classes to the civilian population in our area.
