The
animal shelter of the Animal Control Department receives an average
of 600 unwanted animals per month during the summer and an average
of 365 per month during the rest of the year.
The
Animal Control Department recommends having your dog or cat spayed
or neutered to control the proliferation of the unwanted pet population.

SERVICES:
Primary
duties are to enforce the City of Florence Animal Control Ordinance.
This entails the impoundment of dogs running at large within the
city limits of Florence and issuing warnings and citations to
owners of dogs who are violating the ordinance. Duties also include
impounding and transporting various types of animals to the animal
shelter. These include unwanted, stray, sick, diseased, injured
and vicious animals. Duties may also require assisting the Health
Department with the investigation of animal bites. Responsible
for enforcing animal cruelty laws in the city and educating the
public about animal welfare.
